Introducing Stockholm & the City Hall

View Details

Stockholm is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s most beautiful cities and is often called the Venice of Scandinavia. Dramatically situated at a point where the cobalt blue Lake Mälaren meets and clashes with the darker hue of the Baltic Sea, the city has been splendidly endowed by nature. We board our coach and drive to panoramic view from where you will have a magnificent view of 8 out of the 14 islands, which Stockholm is built upon. No fewer than 57 bridges connect the islands with each other. The panoramic drive continues as you pass the medieval Old Town, the Royal Palace, the Parliament building, the National Museum, the Royal Dramatic Theatre and will end at the City Hall, one of Stockholm’s most iconic buildings.

During the tour, you will get to see all of the City Hall’s grand banquet halls, while learning more about its history, politics, architecture, and the Nobel banquet. The guide will tell you about this iconic building from 1923 and its different uses over the years.

Please note that the City Hall might be closed with short notice; if this happens it will be replaced with the Royal Palace.

The Royal Palace and the Old Town

View Details

The Royal Palace is situated in the Old Town and is one of the most remarkable Baroque buildings in Northern Europe. It is built on the remains of its predecessor, Tre Kronor, which was destroyed by a fire in 1697. The new Palace, with over 600 rooms with windows, was designed by architect Nicodemos Tessin the Younger. Today, the Palace is still used by the King as a place of work. This tour starts with a guided tour inside the Royal Palace. Continue on a guided walking tour through the Old Town island, which is situated as a strategic cork in a bottle between the Baltic Sea and the Lake Mälaren. The Old Town (Gamla Stan) is an area of historical heritage, with many sights and the narrowcobbled streets recall a bygone era. Visit Stortorget, or The Big Square, where the Stockholm Bloodbath in 1520 took place as well as Storkyrkan, the Coronation Church that dates back to the 13th century and is the city’s oldest church.

Please note that the Royal Palace might be closed with short notice; if this happens it will be replaced with the City Hall.

Swedish Countryside Tour

View Details

Enjoy a scenic drive through Stockholm and along Lake Mälaren on your way to Sigtuna, the oldest and probably the most darling town in Sweden. Feel transported back in time as you see a medieval lane lined with colorful wooden shops, galleries, cafés and parks.

Making the town all the more picturesque and historic are the lakeside promenade, Maria Church, ruins and a collection of runic stones. After your guided tour, which includes a visit to the medieval Maria Church, enjoy free time to browse the shops and independently stroll the lanes of the town.

Savor a typical Swedish lunch in a local restaurant before rejoining your motorcoach and traveling southeast to Skokloster Castle, one of the most evocative and astonishing milieus in Europe.

Built in the 17th century by Carl Gustav Wrangel, a wealthy military commander and count, Skokloster Castle is considered to be a monument to the Swedish “Age of Greatness,” a period during the middle of the 17th century when Sweden expanded to become of the major powers in Europe. The interiors of the castle are considered to be wellpreserved, thought to be attributed to the unusually slow changes in temperatures during the seasons. View the various art, antiques and well-stocked armory during your brief visit.

All too soon, re-board your motorcoach and return to the hotel.

Starting/Ending Location: Sheraton Stockholm Hotel, Tegelbacken 6, Box 195, 101 23 Stockholm, Sweden
